The work

From preparation to a fresh finish.

  • Interior and exterior house painting
  • Walls and ceilings
  • Surface preparation discussed for the job
  • Repainting and paint touch-ups

A good painting brief explains more than the colour you want. Share photographs of the full wall or room as well as any peeling paint, cracks or damaged areas. Tell David whether you are refreshing a lived-in home, preparing a room before moving in or giving an exterior wall some attention.

Discuss the surface, then the finish.

Preparation, access and the condition of the existing paint all affect the work. David will discuss what needs doing and what is included in the quote. Agree who supplies paint and other materials, which surfaces are included and how the space will be prepared. If a surface has an underlying problem, raise it before deciding on a repaint.

What to send with your enquiry

For an interior project, include the number of rooms, approximate dimensions and whether ceilings are part of the job. For exterior work, include the height of the walls and how they can be reached. Discuss weather and timing with David when arranging outdoor painting.

Interior painting, exterior walls and touch-ups.

Interior painting: rooms, walls and ceilings

Separate walls and ceilings in your brief so the quote covers the surfaces you actually want painted. Include room dimensions, ceiling height, the existing colour and the finish you have in mind. For an occupied home, agree how furniture will be moved or covered and which rooms need to stay usable while the work is underway.

Exterior house painting and wall preparation

A boundary wall and a high exterior wall need different access arrangements. Send a wide photograph showing the full height and close-ups of peeling paint, cracks or staining. Discuss the preparation, materials and access equipment in the quote. Outdoor timing should account for the weather and the drying requirements of the chosen paint.

Paint touch-ups or a full wall repaint?

A small touch-up may be suitable for a mark or repaired patch, but the existing paint can have faded. Share the original paint tin or colour reference if you have it. Ask David whether a local touch-up or repainting the whole wall makes more sense for the finish you want. Any recurring moisture or surface problem needs discussion before repainting.

Mention loose fittings and other small repairs when planning a room refresh, so the order of work can be agreed.

Scope before price

What shapes your house painting quote?

A painting price needs a defined area and a defined finish. Two quotes for the same room may cover different preparation, materials or surfaces.

Surfaces and condition

Identify walls, ceilings and any other surfaces separately. Share close-ups of peeling paint or damaged areas, as well as a full view of the room or exterior.

Preparation and materials

Discuss the preparation required, the paint and finish, and who will supply them. Confirm the agreed coats and treatment of existing surfaces in the quote.

Protection and access

Mention occupied rooms, furniture, wall height and outdoor access. Agree how belongings will be protected and how cleanup will be handled.

Compare the same surfaces, preparation, materials and cleanup arrangements. Ask David to confirm timing for exterior work around suitable weather.
